Peter only had to make one move to win his game against no opponent, the visitors had obviously not been able to co-ordinate well enough.
I was delighted to see Gordon record a first win for the side this season. I always had confidence that once he had got back into practice he would come good. His last move looked like it was a knight fork.
The visitors, who beat us 6 - 0 earlier in the season, are however, strong players, and secured wins on boards 1, 3 and 4. Roly tells us that he was doing fine until he left a piece en pris. Stephen was close to a draw but played too passively and ended up defending a difficult position. Unfortunately I saw nothing of Nicolas's game.
With the visitors 3 - 2 up that left all the pressure on me for once. I had played well enough to collect two pawns in the middle game. However with two bishops versus two knights in the minor piece ending, White was naking life hard for me. Fortunately, he was short of time and allowed me to get one of his bishops off. As he was set to lose a third pawn as well he called it a day.
So a draw it was. This may turn out to be an important point. With our relegation rivals Cowley Workers 1 still pointless, we ought to be safe if we can beat them again.
