First to finish was Derek. After a fairly strong start a mistakenly touched Queen cost Derek the piece and inevitably the game.

Slava seemed to have no real trouble on his board, having acquired large material gains (possible a queen to the good if I remember correctly) and taking another win (2.5/3 for the season so far).

Paul was the next player to fall. I missed the key moves, but he lost a rook to a knight fork, but was already behind by this point.

Simon scored the next win, a pawn up early on and a strong knight pair causing much of the damage.

John’s match looked the most tactical. His opponent seemed to have a strong queenside attack which John defended against well. A knight down in the end game made John’s task hard against a much higher rated opponent, but John had several advanced pawns putting pressure on his opponent.

Ray played the Ruy-Lopez and was a pawn up for all the game. Unfortunately he was unable to press home the advantage and offered a draw.
Having given the league our customary early head start(!), with 2 games to go this year we will start to think about putting some points on the board to begin our comeback! With 2 tough teams to come, this is going to be no short order!
