Having fielded a strong team ourselves, we were able to claim our 2nd true win of the season (our third being a 6-0 default when Bicester failed to make an appearance at their home match).
Derek was the first to fall, and I saw nothing of his match. He was, however, pleased with his game, having made no blunders.
Stephen grabbed what turned out to be a crucial draw, in a Queen vs 2 rooks end game. I didn’t catch the final moves, but Stephen though his opponent had the better position, and was only too glad to accept the draw.
My own game was fairly run of the mill. I went a couple of pawns up and after forcing an exchange of queens mate was a fairly simple affair.
Simon's game looked fairly evenly match well into the game, but Simon’s opponent lost a bishop with a forked king and was fighting a losing battle after that.
Gordon's opponent seemed to fall for what looked to be a fairly simple double rook mate on the back rank, but I missed the final moves, so something more subtle might have been at play. The opposing captain seemed to think Gordon was worse off earlier in the game.
The final game to finish was Ray's. It appears both players missed opportunities to add pressure, unfortunately Ray ended up with the worst of it, and being a bishop down, and facing a passed pawn, resigned.
